Many people in our area are avid cyclists. They love taking to the road on their bike – its great exercise and helps to reduce pollution. What a lot of people don’t realize is that, starting at the Bridgeport Transportation Center, is the Pequonnock Valley Bike Trail, a concept to develop a continuous and interconnected multi-use trail for bicyclists and pedestrians from the Water Street Dock & Ferry Terminal of the Bridgeport Transportation Center in Downtown Bridgeport to the Newtown town line. The approximately 15-mile trail will link the communities it runs through and provide a safe and protected transportation corridor for bicyclists, pedestrians and other users. The Trail will also allow people who live as far away as Trumbull, Monroe and Newtown to hop on their bikes and cruise on down to the Bridgeport Transportation Center, where they can connect to all the other forms of transportation there. They’ll be able to lock their bikes to racks like the one pictured here and hop a bus, train, taxi or ferry – or, they can keep going and bring their bike with them on the train, ferry, or even a GBTA bus. Another thing lots of people don’t realize is that all GBTA buses are bike rack-equipped. On the front of every GBTA bus is foldout bike rack that can carry two bikes at once. It’s all about giving people choices in how they want to travel – bike, bus, train, ferry, taxi – it’s all good at the new Bridgeport Transportation Center.
