In September 2007, the Greater Bridgeport Transit Authority will move its terminal to a new location. What you’ve been watching as you pass by the intersection of Water Street and Fairfield Avenue in Downtown Bridgeport is the construction of the Bridgeport Transportation Center’s Local & Interstate Bus Station. You may have heard of the City’s Intermodal Transportation Center in the news – this is part of it!
The New Bus station is a 10,000 square foot building with a 3,000 square foot passenger waiting area along with ticketing for local and interregional bus services and a community meeting room. The facility has seventeen bus berths with canopies to protect riders from the elements along all waiting platforms and will, within a year of opening, have real-time bus arrival and departure signs. The Bus Station is connected to the adjacent train platforms by an elevated pedestrian bridge.

The construction of Bridgeport Intermodal Transportation Center project is being managed by the City of Bridgeport and funded through grants from the United States Department of Transportation, Federal Transit Administration, the State of Connecticut and the City of Bridgeport. The Bus station is phase 2 A of a multi-phased project. For details on the complete project, please visit the City of
Bridgeport's Planning & Economic Development website.
